Fire Rumour Sparks Panic, 4 Passengers Jump Onto Tracks, Killed By Passing Train In MP's Morena

A tragic rail accident in Madhya Pradesh's Morena district left four people dead after passengers travelling on the Udaipur Intercity Express reportedly jumped onto the tracks following rumours of a fire onboard. The passengers were struck by the Patalkot Express, which was passing on an adjacent track near Hetampur station. Railway officials said the incident occurred after the train was brought to a halt following an alarm chain being pulled. Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident, while rescue and relief operations were carried out at the site. Panic Onboard According to officials, the Khajuraho-Udaipur Intercity Express was travelling between Hetampur and Dholpur when the train came to a stop after an alarm chain was pulled in a general coach. Initial reports suggest rumours of a fire spread among passengers, triggering panic inside the train. As fear gripped the coach, several passengers reportedly got off the halted train and moved onto a nearby railway track. At the same time, the Firozpur-Seoni Patalkot Express was approaching on the adjacent line. Some of the passengers who had stepped onto the tracks were hit by the passing train, resulting in multiple casualties. The victims have been identified as Afreen (35), Ashad (4), Sakuntala (60) and Veerma Devi (58). Officials said three of the victims were women, while one was a child. Two of the deceased women and the child were residents of Agra, while another woman was from Bikaner. Police, railway officials, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP) and local administration teams rushed to the scene after receiving information about the incident. Assistance was provided to affected passengers and the area was secured for investigation. Probe Underway In a statement, the Railways said a detailed inquiry has been ordered to establish the exact sequence of events and determine the circumstances that led to the tragedy. The Railways also urged passengers not to disembark from moving or halted trains without authorisation and to strictly follow safety protocols during emergencies.
