MEX vs RSA FIFA World Cup 2026 Highlights: Mexico beat South Africa 2-0 in red card-filled opener

The FIFA World Cup 2026 kicked off with an exuberant style as Mexico defeated South Africa in the opening match of the tournament at the Mexico City Stadium. Julian Quinones and Raul Jimenez scored for the co-hosts as the El Tri defeated the Bafana Bafana by 2-0 in the opening match in front of a packed stadium. The match was also marred by three red cards, the first such FIFA World Cup game since 1998, when three players were sent off. Two South African players - Yaya Sithole and Themba Zwane were sent off before Mexico captain Cesar Montes was sent down the tunnel at the Estadio Azteca.
