    A former soldier and part-time metal detectorist, Kevin Minto, discovered a nearly 1,700-year-old Roman gold ring near Ilminster, Somerset. The unique ring, weighing 48 grams and featuring an engraved image of Victoria, was acquired by the South West Heritage Trust for £78,010. Minto received over £19,500 from the sale, with the ring now set for public display.
