    In a major top-level military advancement, the Government of India has officially appointed current Vice Chief of the Army Staff, Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, as the next Chief of the Army Staff (COAS). He will officially assume office on June 30, 2026, succeeding General Upendra Dwivedi upon his superannuation. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, and the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun, Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth brings nearly four decades of highly distinguished operational expertise to the absolute pinnacle of military command.
