    Lakhs of government school teachers appointed before the RTE Act could be affected by the Supreme Court's directive making TET mandatory for in-service teachers. While educators with less than five years left before retirement have been exempted from job loss, others must qualify TET by August 31, 2028, to continue in service. With pass rates historically remaining low, teachers and unions have raised concerns over job security, retrospective rules and the potential impact on school staffing.
