3 hours from now
Maharashtra witnessed a week of significant policy decisions, infrastructure developments, and welfare initiatives aimed at accelerating growth and improving public services across the state. From major aviation milestones to farmer-centric relief measures, the state government remained focused on development and governance priorities. A key highlight of the week was the unveiling of a grand statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the Navi Mumbai International Airport on the occasion of the Shiv Rajyabhishek Day celebration. The installation, completed within a short timeframe, has emerged as a landmark feature of the upcoming airport project. State leadership also reiterated efforts to secure the naming of the airport after the late people's leader D.B. Patil. As the Kharif sowing season approaches, the government issued an important advisory urging farmers not to rush into sowing operations. Weather forecasts indicate that rainfall expected until mid-June may not be sufficient for widespread agricultural activities, prompting officials to advise caution and informed decision-making. Mumbai's public transport network also came into focus as authorities initiated plans for the long-term revival of BEST. The proposed roadmap includes depot modernization, employee housing, public amenities, and financial sustainability measures aimed at strengthening the city's transport backbone. The state cabinet approved a major farm loan relief initiative under the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Shetkari Karj Mukti Yojana. Eligible farmers will receive debt relief of up to ₹2 lakh, while additional benefits have been announced for regular loan repayment. Meanwhile, efforts to accelerate cluster redevelopment projects in Thane gained momentum, with plans to improve housing conditions for residents living in aging and unsafe structures. Government officials also conducted field inspections in rain-affected regions, assuring support for farmers facing crop losses due to pre-monsoon weather conditions.
