A viral video from Sikkim showing ants swarming a car's fuel tank sparked rumours that India’s E20 ethanol-blended petrol attracts insects due to its sugarcane origins. Fact check revealed that ants are attracted to ethanol as it signals fermented sugars (a food cue). It was also found that E20 petrol release vapours or residues that draw ants to filler caps, as seen in the viral video.
