Madhya Pradesh Politics: Congress Candidate Meenakshi Natarajan’s Rajya Sabha Nomination Rejected, Party to Approach Election Commission
3 hours from now
The Congress has suffered a major setback in the Rajya Sabha elections after the nomination of its Madhya Pradesh candidate, Meenakshi Natarajan, was rejected by the Election Commission. In response, a Congress delegation is scheduled to meet Election Commission officials to challenge the decision. Party leaders also staged protests outside the Election Commission’s office in Delhi after being stopped at the entrance, while Congress workers held demonstrations and an overnight vigil in Bhopal. According to the Election Commission’s findings, the nomination was rejected because Meenakshi Natarajan allegedly failed to disclose details of a pending case and a court summons from Hyderabad in her election affidavit. The case reportedly stems from a complaint filed by a corporator accusing her of shielding an individual facing allegations of misconduct. The BJP had objected to her nomination on these grounds, arguing that material information had been concealed. Congress leaders, however, have disputed the rejection, claiming there is no legal requirement to declare such notices and alleging irregularities in the decision-making process.
